The Department of Culture organizes, every Wednesday in July and August, "Read Bormio, a mountain of words", a series of meetings with various authors.

Reading and discussion of the book "The Soldier’s Dreams. Life and logistics of the white war between Tirano and Alta Valtellina", by Marco Rodigari, published by Alpinia.

Description

"The Soldier’s Dreams. Life and logistics of the white war between Tirano and Alta Valtellina" is a publication born from the desire to answer the questions often asked by people who visit the sites of the Great War in Alta Valtellina: what did the soldiers up there eat? How did they keep warm? Where did they sleep? What did their daily survival depend on? The answers to these questions are closely tied to the communications and transport infrastructure of the time, which made life at altitude possible — albeit with enormous difficulty.

The information gathered is the result of study and research among military diaries, private testimonies and archive documents. Through the analysis and comparison of these sources, an attempt has been made to provide a realistic picture of the lives of Italian soldiers, their opponents and the Russian prisoners engaged in these mountains. The soldiers' dreams were simple but often unattainable... Life at high altitude, life in the rear, transport and communications are the main themes covered...
